Welcome to true scary story. Most areas have a certain road that is said
00:00:15
to be haunted, but despite the many stories that we hear, few have
00:00:19
actual first hand experiences. Today we're going to hear one of them, and
00:00:24
the bizarre case of a haunted highway. My name is Edwin and here is
00:00:30
Kayleen. It's true scary story. Back in twenty twelve, I had a
00:00:43
best friend named Savannah. We used to go to Crumpoint High School. She
00:00:48
lived in the area. I lived further north, thirty minutes from there,
00:00:53
in a little community called Lake Valley. She picked me up on her way
00:00:58
to Farmington, which is another hour and thirty minutes where she lives also north,
00:01:04
just to hang out. It was a Friday night. I told her
00:01:08
that I would go. I went with her. We ended up staying pretty
00:01:12
late in town. We didn't leave town until ten o'clock. We started heading
00:01:19
back on Highway three seventy one is what we call it. There's a junction
00:01:26
called in five Junction and Highway three seventy one is the little tea area.
00:01:34
We were driving past there after midnight. I was sitting in the back seat,
00:01:40
Savannah was in the passenger side. Her dad was driving out of nowhere.
00:01:45
We saw the police lights behind us. We were confused. We didn't
00:01:49
see anything on the road or any Savanna's dad pulled over. He told us
00:01:57
everything would be okay. I'd probably have missing towel light. We waited for
00:02:00
a good ten minutes, which I thought was also odd for the police officer
00:02:06
to come to the window. Ten minutes later, the police officer showed up
00:02:09
knocked on the window. He didn't even make eye contact. He just knocked
00:02:15
on the window. All we could see was his stomach. That's it.
00:02:21
We couldn't see his chest, his head or would he look like he knocks
00:02:25
on the window. Savannah's dad rolls down the window. He said to Savannah's
00:02:31
dad, Hey, hello, have you been drinking? You've been drinking?
00:02:38
Her dad said, no, sir, I haven't. The police officer said,
00:02:43
are you sure? Who are you with? We thought it was pretty
00:02:46
odd a police officer would introduce himself and be like, do you know why
00:02:53
I pulled you over? But this was just a simple, straightforward have you
00:02:59
been drinking? It was on five minutes. Six minutes later, he finally
00:03:04
asked do you have your driver's license? He didn't ask for a registration,
00:03:08
just the driver's license. When Savannah's dad was looking for his driver's license in
00:03:15
his wallet, I tried to look through the window, trying to peek up
00:03:21
at him. With his fash light, he shined it at my face.
00:03:24
I couldn't see. I only saw his police uniform. Where we're at,
00:03:30
it's usually Navajo Nation police officers. They patrolled that area. He just took
00:03:38
the driver's license and told Savannah's dad I'll be back. Went back to his
00:03:46
squad car. Savannah's dad tried to look in the Reavery mirroor or on the
00:03:52
side marrow. I saw him do that. All he said was what the
00:03:55
heck? I wanted to ask him what was wrong, but I didn't.
00:04:01
I didn't say anything because I got the chills. At the same time.
00:04:05
I finally had the courage to turn around, but the lights from the squad
00:04:12
car was so bright I couldn't see anything. All Savannah's dad said was we
00:04:16
need to hurry and go home. The police officer came back and said,
00:04:24
are you sure you're not drinking, sir? Savannah's dad kind of seemed annoy
00:04:28
and he said, no, I told you I'm not drinking. I do
00:04:31
not drink. The police officer said, are you sure. Savanna's dad said,
00:04:39
am I being charged with anything? If not, we'd like to get
00:04:42
back. We live pretty far. We do live pretty far. Back then,
00:04:46
we didn't have self service either, so quite like an hour of no
00:04:53
self services where we got pulled over. He didn't say anything, just gave
00:04:58
the driver's license back and said good night, didn't write any paper, didn't
00:05:03
even tell Savannah's dad this is a warning. Nothing. We buckled our seat
00:05:10
belts back on and getting ready to go back onto the main highway, Highway
00:05:15
three seventy one. We saw this vehicle approaching from Afar. When the vehicle
00:05:21
passed us, I saw Savannah's dad look into the rear view mirro. He
00:05:27
said, what the hell, we're going home right now? We have to
00:05:32
go home, That's all he kept saying. He didn't tell us why.
00:05:35
When I saw his speedometer it was seventy five eighty, I knew something was
00:05:41
wrong. He told me, whenever we get serviced, call your parents,
00:05:46
tell them to pick you up. We have to go straight home. I
00:05:50
did as I was told, still unsure why. I still have an eerie
00:05:55
feeling. I didn't want to turn around. I didn't even want to be
00:05:58
in the back seat by myself. The next day came along, I went
00:06:04
to school. Savannah was there during lunchtime. She told me, I gotta
00:06:09
tell you what happened and what we found out. When they got home.
00:06:14
That night, her dad called to the shipwreck Navajo Nation Police Department to complain
00:06:21
about this officer the ship brought. Police department looked into it and said,
00:06:28
we had no one patrolling that area last night, but I can call another
00:06:33
department to see if anyone was there. He came back on the line and
00:06:40
told Savannah's dad, hey, there was no one around the area. They
00:06:46
were all on a call towards Gallop, New Mexico. That's where most of
00:06:53
our police officers were. Savannah's dad said, if it wasn't anyone in your
00:06:58
department or elsewhere, then who was it The guy he was talking to?
00:07:02
You said, this is not the first time we have been getting a call
00:07:08
like this. We've gotten numerous calls like this. They all said the same
00:07:13
thing, what you're describing. We had a police officer that passed away in
00:07:19
that area months ago. Back. He went head on with another driver that
00:07:25
had a female. We don't bury our police officers with their badge or their
00:07:30
plate number. That's probably why you couldn't get the plate number. He told
00:07:38
Savannas that I'm just letting you know now to go see what we call in
00:07:44
our Navajo culture a singing none going to see a medicine man. In our
00:07:49
culture, if someone's not laid to rest properly, they have a hard time
00:07:55
crossing over. We would call them in our Navajo language, people that shouldn't
00:08:03
be there, people that have already passed on, that shouldn't be there.
00:08:09
They can take shape into someone you know. They usually choose someone that's really
00:08:13
close to you. They'll mimic their voice, look like them. They'll turn
00:08:20
into any animals. They can just about anything. If they're not laid to
00:08:26
rest properly, or in their lifetime, something wasn't going right. The after
00:08:33
life comes, it usually means they're bad. In Anglo language, they would
00:08:39
call it skin walkers. He went to the medicine man that same night.
00:08:46
He didn't want to wait. That same medicine man told him what the ship
00:08:50
brought to police department had told them. But the medicine man added that when
00:08:54
that police officer took his driver's license, he had put something on there and
00:09:01
gave it back to him like that. The medicine man added that he's just
00:09:07
a lost spirit. He was mad that he didn't get to live his full
00:09:11
life. That is why he has been trying to look for this girl that
00:09:18
he had a collision with. He goes around that area looking for any girls
00:09:26
that were the same age as me and Savannah at that time. It was
00:09:33
really odd. But every time I would try to look through the window at
00:09:35
him to see his face or even to get the badge number, he would
00:09:41
always shine the flash light in my eyes, so I couldn't see anything.
00:09:46
I was pretty freaked out about it. If you know anyone on the Nave
00:09:50
Nation, there's stories that would go around. We had mentioned it to one
00:09:56
of our teachers at the time in high school. She told us her her
00:10:03
daughter in law had experienced the same thing in that area. When you drive
00:10:09
in that area at night, either he would see someone walking onside the road,
00:10:16
Vehicles come out of nowhere. When another vehicle passes, you look in
00:10:22
the rearview, mirl there's nothing. If you're driving by yourself, you would
00:10:26
see someone sitting in the backseat with you. There's a lot of accidents that
00:10:33
happened there. You can share your own story with me over on true scarystory
